Knowledge of the green planet - GREEN is IN
World Environment Day is a day that is celebrated all over the world on June 5 with the aim of drawing public attention to numerous problems in the environment and the need to preserve the environment. Environmental protection is crucial for the preservation of natural resources, human health and sustainable development. We all have a responsibility to take care of the environment to create a better environment for all of us.
For this reason, on June 5, 2024, the Technical Faculty "Mihajlo Pupin" in Zrenjanin held an event called Knowledge for a Green Planet - Green is In, organized by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Basic and Applied Sciences - Department of Clothing Engineering of the Technical Faculty "Mihajlo Pupin" with the support of the City of Zrenjenin.
This year, the organizers and participants drew attention to the negative effects of "fast fashion" on the environment. Clothing provides us with comfort and protection, and for many it is an important expression of individuality. However, although the textile and fashion industry is one of the largest industries in the world economy, it is one of the largest polluters of the environment.
In addition to the students of the "Mihajlo Pupin" Technical Faculty, Zrenjanin's creative high school students, the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković", the fashion designer AMELIA, the NGO "Environmental Protection Engineers" participated in the event, which through exhibitions, workshops and presentations reminded the citizens of Zrenjanin of the importance of preserving the environment, but also pointed out possible solutions, how and in what way everyone can contribute to a greener and cleaner environment.
As part of the manifestation on June 4, a panel entitled "What is the price of fast fashion" was held in the Cultural Center of Zrenjanin. The panelists were: prof. Dr. Bogdana Vujić, Assoc. Dr. Ineta Nemeša, prof. Dr. Sanja Stanisavljev and Prof. Eddie Darushi.
